Vostro Docking Stations
Controversies and divided opinions, this is what best defines Vostro docking stations in terms of market reception or feedback. Vostro is one of the lines produced by Dell, and the designer seems to have neglected the need for a dock port with these laptop’s features. Reviews rate the Vostro as a good computer model, created to match the small business needs for portability and flexibility of usage. The technology options are very numerous, the wireless connectivity is enhanced at the maximum and the durability of the item is hard to match . Yet, the absence of a docking station port is hard to explain when it comes to such a technically advanced item.
Many businesses therefore prefer Dell Latitude and Lenovo ThinkPad. The success rate has thus been lower for the Vostro laptop line in the absence of viable Vostro docking stations. One can hardly find a justification for the omission particularly since businesses aim at mobility first and foremost. You plug in the dock and you have access to anything from large keyboard and mouse to printer, scanner, modem and even external drive.
The absence of vostro docking stations could be justified by the number of ports available with the laptops. Normally in addition to the four USB ports you also get a media card reader, a headphone jack, a microphone jack, a FireWire and an ExpressCard slot. In the absence of the Vostro docking stations, the Vostro user will constantly have to plug and unplug the various desk appliances. In response to the negative feedback, Dell manufacturers made changes in 2008, but further improvement is expected.
The weight and size of the first Vostro laptops triggered criticism and a readjustment phase, but we can also expect the introduction of the Vostro docking stations in the near future. The market pressure gets higher as all Dell competitors have incorporated such features into their products. The need for highly efficient work environment cannot be solved by the Vostro laptop design. Let’s hope that there will soon be a concrete response in the form of a new Vostro series meant to adapt to the docking needs of the office user.
