Do I have to use the hands free feature on the tomtom car kit for iphone?

I already have a hands free kit in my car, I want this for the speaker for the gps (the speaker on the iphone is not that good) and the extra gps chip. My blue tooth car kit uses the car speakers for calls.
I read that you have to connect it to your phone through blue tooth. So do I have to use the hands free part of the kit for calls?
I did post it in the consumer electronics section. Sometimes I think Yahoo Answers has a mind of it’s own.
