Although their history starts back in 1961, it was not until 2001 that Maurice Lacroix ladies watches were truly recognized. Maurice Lacroix began in 1961 in Saignelegier, which is a municipality of the Canton of Jura in Switzerland. Over the next 14 years the company grew from a private distributor in Switzerland to launching their first model in Austria. After their initial expansion into Switzerland’s eastern neighbor, Austria, a growing market in Europe began to emerge.
Between the years of 1976 and 1987 Maurice Lacroix watches would become available in 7 different countries. Soon the countries of the Far East and South Pacific Region of Asia, as well as the Near and Middle East were introduced to Maurice Lacroix watches in 1989 and 1990. With growing business in the Near and Middle East and an established selling in Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong and Saudi Arabia, Maurice Lacroix had become a major manufacturer. The increase in revenue from these new countries led to new developments in their Saignelegier facilities.
The early and mid 1900′s witnessed the modernization of the Saignelegier facility. Throughout the history of Maurice Lacroix, the Saignelegier facility would undergo many renovations. Soon after, Maurice Lacroix would be viewing the United States as a new client of their watches. Over the next few years Maurice Lacroix increased the size and distribution of previous facilities due to the increasing demand of international clients.
In 1999 the Saignelegier facility was expanded for the 2nd time. In 2001 it once again saw improvements done to it as Maurice Lacroix officially had its own legal identity. Soon after expanding its Saignelegier facilities for the third time, Maurice Lacroix sought to open subsidiaries elsewhere.
Great Britain was bestowed the honor of its own subsidiary in 2002. Four years later, in 2006, the company had acquired all the necessities to become an exclusive manufacture brand. In 2008 Maurice Lacroix made history by introducing the first mechanical watch with a memory function, the Memoire 1.
