The Beauty of Swarovski Rhinestone

Rhinestones provide a luxurious sparkle to jewelry, clothing, accessories and other precious pieces. Even the simplest items can be transformed into glamour using them.

Austria and the Czech Republic are world renowned for producing the finest rhinestons. Rather than being crafted from plastic like many rhinestones on the market, those made in Europe are often leaded glass crystal. The difference is in the sparkle, the fire and the longevity of the wear. A genuine crystal rhinestone will last for generations, maintaining its luster and brilliance. It is common to find exquisite rhinestone costume jewelry made in the 1930’s and 1940’s even now.

George Fredrich Strass, the inventor of rhinestones, discovered a way to coat the clear stones he found in the Rhine River in 1775. He was thrilled to discover the result: a sparkling stone that looked like a diamond! Eventually, glass crystals replaced river stones. In 1892, rhinestones became mainstream when Daniel Swarovski won the patent to the machine he invented which automatically cut the stones. This made it possible to make more stones in less time and at far less cost. Swarovski is still the biggest manufacturer of crystals in the world.

Rhinestones are available in every conceivable color, size and shape. They are used in formal clothing, costumes and even wedding dresses. The flat-backed stones made by Swarovski can be attached easily to fabric using different methods.

Use only vendors who are trustworthy. Make sure before you place your order that you are getting genuine crystals from Austria or Czech republic. Don’t be more concerned about cost than quality.

Most companies making rhinestones also make crystal beads. Swarovski has an enormous line of beads in all shapes, sizes and colors. These have in turn been made into handmade jewelry or other accessories. Millions of crafters–whether professional or amateur–have used these beads in every way possible.

There is no limit to what you can do using rhinestones. Use genuine crystals and beads to create unique clothing and accessories that can’t be found anywhere else.
