Effective and efficient teamwork goes beyond individual accomplishments, not meaning that individuals are not important. * When team members are integrated they have a strong sense of belonging to the group. Integrated individuals know that they are contributing to the group’s decisions and actions.

* Teams have to be constantly evaluated and coached. This is the only way to improve procedures, practices and interaction among the individuals. Team members have to be able to discuss in open forums these procedures and how to make them more efficient in order to perform as expected.

* Leadership is crucial in meetings, in assigning tasks, in taking decisions, in making commitments, assessing progress, holding team members accountable and in providing direction. Leaders can and should delegate leading functions to other team members.

* Team members are individuals with different levels of experience, different points of view, knowledge and opinions and they expect to be treated properly and respectfully.

* Creativity and innovation are important activities that should be encouraged during teamwork sessions.

* Teams have to agree on procedures for diagnosing, examining and resolving team internal problems and conflicts. Teams work together to resolve internal and mutual problems. Different personalities can crash but other individuals cannot pick sides in a disagreement.

* Team members make decisions together, they perform together and they should have the support and commitment to carry out the decisions taken.

If a team can get the above points in track and under control, success and high performance will be the rewards for properly structured teamwork.
