Guidelines For Using A Car GPS In Your Vehicle

November 20th, 2011 No comments

If you have a GPS device for your automobile and you plan to use for a road trip, or even if you are just using it to get across town, you will want to follow certain rules. Your GPS is designed to get you from point A to point B, but it should be used with care. If you use it properly, however, your GPS will give you years of service to allow for safer and easier travel.

How to Program Your GPS

Did you know that there is a right way and a wrong way to program your Garmin Nuvi 295W Navigator, or whichever device you own? There is. You should always make sure that you program the device before you embark on your journey. Never key in your destination once you are already on the road. Accidents happen quickly and diverting your eyes from the road for a second could result in serious repercussions that could see you or someone else loosing their lives. Always program your destination before you start your trip. If that is not possible then do so when you are able to stop long enough.

What About Alternate Routes and Tolls?

Your Garmin Nuvi 1350 will probably inform you that there is a toll road approaching and whether there are any traffic issues such as a back-up. Having done so it will then give you the option to choose an alternate route but this will require you to tap either a yes or no button on the Touchscreen. In order to do so you would obviously have to take your eyes off the road to see where you are pressing but that is not advisable unless your vehicle is stationary. If you are unable to pull over and have to select the option of your choice while driving make sure you are careful when you do so.

Speed and Distance

While using your GPS device you will be provided with information regarding your driving speed as well as the estimated time you will arrive at the destination. Your Garmin nuvi 295W Navigator will inform you that you are traveling at such and such speed and your ETA will be at such and such time.

Because of this feature you will be able to determine if you are going to be late. This might tempt you to drive faster in order to reach your destination in time. Never do this as it can result in an accident which is the last thing you need.

If you follow the above rules, you will have a much safer time in the car and you’ll have a better chance of arriving at any destination in one piece. Remember that your GPS device is just a tool to help you find your way better. You must still pay attention to the road and operate your vehicle as you’re supposed to. If you can remember those things, your GPS will serve you well no matter where you’re going.
