What is a “silver sensor” UHF antenna?
“Silver Sensor” type antennas are small indoor UHF antennas that are very directional in nature. The name was used in advertising for the Zenith model ZHDTV1, the first antenna of this type.
These have a good reputation in areas where ghosting occurs in analog TV signals since they are good at picking out one signal and not picking up reflections of that signal (that’s what causes the “ghosts”).
It’s good enough that other manufacturers have copied the design. Some models add amplifiers. Tek makes versions with a pair of VHF dipoles so it also works like a pair of rabbit ears for VHF channels.
Their main limitation is because the are directional, they don’t work very good if you want to pick up TV stations that are in various directions with out moving the antenna.
These have also been called “rooster fin” and “UHF Log-Periodic Dipole Array” antennas.
