Now that the iPhone 3G has been released in the UK will it work in Tokyo, Japan?
and will the GPS and internet work?

iPhone 3G with O2 SIM works on DoCoMo network in Japan. DoCoMo is the biggest cellular operator in Japan.
Internet via O2 SIM, I do not know. Probably it works but it costs fortune.

Internet via Wi-Fi (802.11b/g) works if you have an access permission to the base station.
GPS works, but I propose that you download the map into your phone at the place where the packet cost less using “OfflineMaps” or “Maps Offline” so that you can avoid the high fee.
