The telephone is an essential device used everyday by people in America . The technology attached to the phone seems to continue to astound us and how quickly the phone has changed from 1876 when Alexander Graham Bell invented what he named the “harmonic telegraph”. Alexander Graham Bell wanted to improve on the telegraph which had been the only source of communicating for three decades by the late 1800′s. He patented the telephone which he originally named the harmonic telegraph in 1876 when realizing sound and voices could be carried over the wires instead of signals. With the invention of the phone, the telegraph basically became extinct because the phone was much better .
