Home Theater System – What To Look For In An Entry Level System

Home Theater Systems….what to look for in the entry level system to find the most bang for your buck. I’m the guy that would rather spend my money once, and acquire close to the best, over buy cheap to hold me over till I CAN buy the best. Personally, I believe the differences between the “best” and perhaps “third best” are nothing more than preferences from the reviewer. Let’s start working on what to look for in an basic home theater system.

First, do you want to piece an entire home entertainment system together or obtain a package deal that already has everything included. If you have a dedicated home theater room, and plenty of $$$$$, then buying select components is going to be the way to go. However, if you’re looking for something to simply enhance your audio / video pleasure, then let the experts do the work. Company’s like Sony, Bose, Polk Audio to name a few, have helped make the choice easier by designing what is called “Home theater in a box” or “all in one”.

These all-in-one systems usually come complete with a stereo receiver, DVD (or Blu-Ray)player which also plays CD’s, and speakers to complete a 5.1 (this identifies how many channels and speakers / 5.1 means 6 channels – 5 full frequency and 1 Low Frequency Effects for heavy bass) multichannel audio experience.

The next choice you might be faced with is resolution, 1080i or 1080p. I cannot go into details here, I’ll state facts and my personal.

Facts (1) the p resolution is way better (2) High-def broadcasts will be in 1080i or 720p.

My opinion (1) Just the discerning and very picky viewer will ever notice the difference. If there exists a slight price difference, and you can afford it, you might want to go ahead with the higher resolution. Of course to see this slight difference you will also need to purchase a composite or HDMI video cable which may be very expensive.

In summary, all-in-one home theater systems are ideal for family rooms, bedrooms, and dorms. They’ll deliver all the power you need for these smaller areas. and you’ll be pleasantly surprised at the difference an all-in-one home entertainment system will make for your viewing and listening pleasure.
