gps usb device
How do you update maps in a GPS navigation device using a USB cable?
I am using a Initial model number GM-501 unit. it uses Navteq maps and It came with the 2005 edition of the U.S.A. and Canada The manual that came with it mentions nothing about how to do this or what I need to purchase to complete this action. I have been to the Navteq site and they have tons of maps for sale and I am not sure which one to buy so I don’t corrupt the turn by turn voice on this device.
Although the data is from NAVTEQ, YOU MUST get the updated software from the manufacturer of the GPS. ALL GPS makers (almost all) use the NAVTEQ raw data. Each however changes the format, chooses what to use, and then packages it for usage in their GPS units. I think it VERY unlikely you could update maps by brute force if you could even find the raw NAVTEQ database. I use a Magellan Roadmate and each year or two, they make a map update download available for $99 or so in the USA. Simple pay, download, update.
