are GPS systems for Cars very reliable as a map and Navigator?

I’m going to be driving in LA and i’m renting a GPS for my rented vehicle. Is it really that reliable? or should i carry around a map of LA as well?

GPS is very reliable. However, you must know your destination to work well. You enter an address and the gps will map out the route. If you know all the destinations you want to travel to, a map is not necessary.
Personally I would carry a map in case I decided to visit somewhere I did not know the address of.
