Recommended Laptop GPS software?

Hi, i have a standard windows xp based laptop but i want to be able to use it as sort of a sat nav but on a larger scale. i have a gps receiver for the computer i just need some good navigation software that will track my position while I’m driving and point out any hot spots such as service stations truck stops etc

can anybody recommend any such software for laptops?

any help will be great

thanks!

I really enjoy Garmin Mapsource — it comes with the CD versions of their street or topo maps. It can be set to work with a serial port, or USB GPS receiver – or a bluetooth one set to emulate a serial connection.

Those maps will work on your PC in realtime, and they’re also licensed for upload to a garmin device, so you don’t need two copies.

The map updates are about a hundred bucks (US), so not very expensive at all, considering the rest of the gear.
