Tomtom Go 510, 720, or 910?

I’m buying a GPS system as a gift for my technically savvy boyfriend. Consumer Reports likes the TomTom Go 510, but they don’t review the 720 (I think because it’s so new). Any suggestions?

I personally had the 910 originally. I had bought it last year, May of 2006. It had great features, including blue tooth, hands free calling, loaded with maps of North America and Europe. However the biggest deterent would be the size and bulk of this gps unit. Within the first few days of using it on my windshield, I realized the provided windshield attachment was not strong enough for the unit and after driving for a couple minutes, it would droop down or sometimes fall off completely, bringing the suction cup off the windshield. Also stores are not carrying it as often, for instance I went to where I bought it, Best Buy and they said that they heard it was being discontinued. Because I still had a warranty with the store, they let me replace my 910 with something of similar qualities which was the 720 (just came out in August). It is significantly smaller, while not being totally pocketable, however it contains everything the 910 did except for maps of Europe. Also there is an FM transmitter inside the unit which allows for you to let your car stereo serve as your speaker. However one draw back is that the internal memory is only 2 GB as opposed to the 910 which had 20 GB. This is resolved by buying a 2 GB or 5 GB SD Card which you can pick up at costco for under 50$. Also there is no more problem with the windshield mount, it works perfectly and the unit itself has been flawless since I have used it, for a week now. The 510 I have no information on, but the 720 is TomTom’s top of the line GPS unit right now, they tout it a lot on their website. Hope it helps!
