gps receiver antenna
What is the difference between GPS receiver and GPS antenna in a mobile phone?
A GPS antenna is just a radio antenna tuned to pick up the GPS signals.
A GPS receiver is a device which takes GPS signals from an antenna and calculates its location (or technically the location of the antenna which picked up the signals).
Just about any consumer GPS receiver (including the ones in phones) will have a built in antenna but some have a socket so that you can connect a better external antenna to them if you want.
I’m never heard of a phone with just a GPS antenna and no GPS receiver, that would be very strange and pointless. If you have seen a phone that claims that then it is probably a mistake in the description.
