gps point and shoot

Where can i get a GPS transmitter?

I’m going to be attaching a camera to a weather balloon filled with helium and sending it off into high altitude. Only problem is that i need some type of GPS/RF/Radio transmitter that i can track, so i know where i can pick it up after it falls back to Earth. Where can i get something like this?

And don’t worry, i protected the camera which is an old point and shoot i got for $30, i just need to make sure the memory card comes back intact and i know where to pick it up

You cannot transmit on GPS frequencies.

You can build a tracker, ham radio ops do it all the time.

I would suggest that you investigate getting a ham radio license, otherwise…..

You will need a license to transmit on a radio frequency that is assigned, you will need a radio that is certified for telemetry, then you will need a network of receivers.

There is already a network in place, but it takes a Amateur Radio license to use. check out www.aprs.net

To get your license, check out www.arrl.org

There is a couple balloon flights scheduled on APRS.
