gps on blackberry storm verizon
BlackBerry Storm GPS help?
Is Google Maps free to use on my BlackBerry Storm 9530? I know the download and installation is free but when I actually use it am I paying for it? I don’t want to pay the $9.99 monthly plan for Verizon so I need a free GPS.
Also, does anyone know the GPS application in the Ozzy Osbourne commercial where he uses it to find his bathroom? Is that free too?
(if its not the same thing as Google Maps…I don’t know.)
Most of the so called free GPS software updates through data downloads. Google maps only works through data downloads as well.
The only true software that is totally free would be We-Travel. This is because it stores complete maps on your blackberry’s memory card. It even offers voice commands (e.g. turn left). Unlike the commercial software, it does not tell you street names during these commands – Software like Garmin will even tell you to turn right on “Jones Ave” which is coming up in 200 metres. With We-Travel, when entering a destination you can only enter the street name but not the house or building # – something the pricier applications will do.
For a free software it does pack a punch and that is the one I am using. Even if I get a commercial package, I will always keep this one just in case I am in a place without cellular signal. Also, the developers at We-Travel are constantly churning out new features and improving the software.
