gps general relativity
What is General Relativity?
What is the principle?
Could you give a description of the priciple?
How we use it in real life? GPS?
Why it cant exist in Flatland?
General theory of Relativity was developed by Albert Einstein in 1916. The theory can be express in Einstein field equation using tensor calculus expressing time as the fourth dimention. But anyway, General relativity deals with big masses. I mean very very big. people always think that space and time are totaly defferent things. but for Einstein, they are the same and actualy he said that time is the forth demention in addition to the three dimentions that we think. Therefore, einstien called space and time as spacetime. General relativity come in to play when a mass become so large and dense like planets. Massive object tend to bend the geometry of our flat 4 dimintional spacetime around it. The bending of the space time represents gravity. The more massive and dense an object, the more it bend our spacetime and the stronger the gravity become. Think of our spacetime as a trampoline, if we put a tennis ball on top of it, it’ll barely do anything to the trampoline. Now, grab a 10lbs bawling ball and place on our tampoline, notice that the trampoline will bent and notice also that the tennis ball will “fall” toward the bawling ball. If we apply a little push to the tennis ball, it will “revolve” around the bawling ball.! SEE WHERE I’M GETTING IN THIS ONE! Yap! the bawlling ball represents the sun and the tennis represents a planet! Black holes act the same way just much havier. Think of blackhole is as heavy as an aircraft carrier but only the size of our tennis ball then put it on our tranpoline. Everyting will “fall” on it or worse, rip our trampoline. So that means ripping our spacetime… hummmm! hint.. hint.. hint..! time travel…???? nobody really knows but theres a possibility.
To bettter understand the theory you need to understand the mathematics behind it… but heads up its ridiculously hard..!
I want to answer all of your question on details above but I think I’ve already wrote too much.
But anyway general relativity cannot exist in flatland because it deals with bending. And GPS is not the application of General Relativity it might fall under Special Relativity.
hope this helps a little…!
