How to Clean GPS Antenna Connections (Oxidation)?
I have a permanent mounted GPS antenna on my boat. I remove the unit after use but the male connector from the antenna oxidizes over time and the connection to the unit, sometimes, does not conduct the antenna info. Any ideas on how to remove safely and how to prevent in the future. Thanks
a can of brake and electrical contact cleaner will work wonders. you can pick one up for about 6 bucks at your local auto parts store. spray it on and let it sit for a couple minutes then wipe it off. silicon based sprays work well to protect the contacts. i use a product called fluid film. it does not effect the contacts or signal strength.
i have a boat with full electronics in the queen charlotte islands. i never disconnect anything and never have issues.
good luck
