More than churning out prints with color or mono Samsung CLX 3160N compatible toner, the Samsung CLX 3160N Printer does other tasks. That’s because it’s also capable of scanning, reproducing and faxing – all in a single unit. Everything is within a compact enclosure with an 18.3-inch (W) x 16.9-inch (D) x 19.1-inch (H) dimension. Being a laser printer, it can dish out 16 black-and-white pages each minute. That’s equivalent to 4 pages each minute when doing color jobs. But for both tasks, a resolution of up to 2400 dpi x 600 dpi (dots per inch) may be utilized. Upon purchase, starter toner cartridges are provided. The black toner can last for a max of 1500 pages, while the rest (cyan, magenta and yellow) each can last for up to 700 pages.

It has a 150-sheet standard input media handling capacity to boot, thanks to the single feeder available. This feeder can be adjusted to accommodate different media dimensions. Speaking of media dimensions, the machine can handle those measuring from as small as 3″ x 5″ to as big as 8.5″ x 14″. Supported media kinds are regular paper, transparencies, envelopes, cards, labels, etc. For meeting increased productivity needs, an optional 250-sheet feeder may be installed.

There’s an A4 sized flatbed scanner on top which can provide an interpolated resolution of 4800 x 4800 dots per inch. In front of the machine is a USB port, which comes in handy when scanning. That’s because you can directly save the scanned document to a USB flash drive. But it’s also possible to directly save it to the PC’s hard drive or attach to an e-mail. Scan to network is usable if the CLX 3160N is connected to a workgroup.

Functioning as a copier, it takes on the speed of being a laser printer when working on black-and-white and color documents. But when it comes to the max resolution available, up to 1200 dpi x 1200 dpi may be used. Maximum document enlargement is 400 percent, while reduction is 25 percent. As much as 99 copies may be made, using either the available flatbed scanner or the automatic document feeder.

Both monochrome and color faxing is possible here. Inbuilt modem is capable of yielding transmission speeds of up to 33.6 Kbps. Fax resolutions available are 200 x 200 and 300 x 300 dots per inch. As much as 320 pages can be stored on the available fax memory. While no handset is available, dedicated buttons for faxing on the control panel are present for accessing the address book, quick-dial numbers, and others.

Well laid out, the control panel makes the operation of this 4-in-one machine a breeze. Other than faxing, there are also dedicated buttons for copying, scanning and of course printing. Available USB port on the front panel may also be used for direct printing of files on a USB flash drive or digital camera. A total of 128MB RAM already comes installed. There’s support for an assortment of operating systems.

The Samsung CLX 3160N Printer has a monthly duty cycle of 24200 pages. With a weight of 45.2 pounds, it’s best to have a dedicated spot for it at the office. Now, the tools for carrying out basic office tasks can be found in one compact and easy-to-use machine.
