what can the Ipod touch 2g do?

So im looking at buying the latest ipod touch 2g 32GB but im just a little unsure at what it can and cant do, the biggest problem for me is the wifi that i had to be home sat on my router to use it but then i did some googleing and found this:

http://www.boingo.com/what-is-boingo.php

will this service make it more like the iphone so i can surf any where in the world?
as it says ‘our Boingo account will work on Wi-Fi networks around the world from leading providers such as AT&T, Wayport, iBahn, T-Mobile, BT Openzone’ so it will basically be like my phone?

and the next point was the GPS can you get gps on your ipod touch, i found this:

http://xgps.xwaves.net/index.php/Main_Page

its a free opensource gps for the iphone or touch but it says you may need and adaptor for the touch is this true or has the latest models got the gps built in to it? i read some where it has not then i read it has just a little confufed.
Any one got any wisdom to share? =]

Okay well I have the 2g 16g and with the internet I find I can only hook up to my network at home or somewhere where it has a wifi network. I have never heard of getting internet everywhere. and the GPS thing yes you do have it. well kind of. its just maps and you can download google earth. but you have to be hooked up to the internet. hope this helps at all! :)
