Boom Mic ….?

Can a regular microphone to be used on a stand like a boom mic? If not, where you can see a boom mic, or where you can buy to use the orchestra for a boom mic while you are recording something?

A handheld micorphone on a stand has very different qualities of a traditional boom, so I would not go that route if you include dialogue. The handheld is likely the records in a omni directional (all) or kidney (almost everythhing) config. The booms are very directional, so it helps cut out background noise. For a good boom mic, I would check out bhphotovideo.com. Also check out ebay for a good deal on one. To connect to your camcorder, you will either go straight into via XLR or you need an XLR to mini-(or RCA) adapter, depending on the brand. The "box" that I think you're talking about is either a mixer or a Nagra (with the audio recordings ) in the films.
